LUCID is a collaborative conference organised by representatives from all of the UK & Ireland's industry clubs.

Lynn Timmons - Chair

FOCUS

I am the Chief Underwriter for Gen Re, having worked in the protection industry for almost 30 years.

I am committed to the ongoing development of our underwriters and claims assessors as well as making a difference to our industry.

I sit on many industry bodies such as ILAG, the Income Protection Task Force, Women in Protection and the ABI EHR and Right to be Forgotten working parties.

I have been a member of the FOCUS committee for over 15 years now, including past Chair. This will be my second LUCID conference and I am thrilled to be chairing this one.

Emily Clark - Vice Chair

Select 74

Emily is a Senior Underwriter at Pacific Life Re and Chair of Select 74. She started her career in underwriting at a direct insurer and has over 14 years’ experience in the industry, 8 of which are in Reinsurance. Emily Joined the LUCID committee in 2023 and is looking forward to planning LUCID 2025 as Vice-Chair.

Matt Bone

I am the Head of Underwriting & Claims for Munich Re, UK Life Branch. I have over 30 years’ experience in financial services and am responsible for setting Munich Re’s underwriting and claims strategy to support UK and Irish clients.  I also support regional digital and innovation initiatives.

Prior to joining Munich Re I worked for various insurers, reinsurers and third-party administrators across the UK Protection market.

I’ve been a committee member, and am the former chair, of AMUS for the past 10 years.

I am a Development and Technical Specialist for Claims. I’ve worked within the Protection Insurance industry for 20 years, splitting my time between Legal and General, and Vitality Life. I’ve recently returned to Legal & General in the Business Development and Technical Team. I’m Vice Chair on the Health Claims Forum which I have been a committee member of for almost 7 years.  I am passionate about the learning and sharing of knowledge within the claims industry; facilitating the development of claims assessors and ensuring our customers have the best experience possible at a very challenging time in their lives.

Currently Chief Underwriter at AIG, I’ve worked in underwriting for 15 years in a number of different roles. I’ve been a member of AMUS for 5 years and on the LUCID committee for Glasgow and York.  I’m passionate about educating underwriting and claims professionals and proud of the work that AMUS and LUCID do to this end.  I am keen to support the development of underwriting so that we can get cover in place for more people, more easily,  helping more people to live better lives.

Valerie Doddy

Currently, I am a Senior Underwriter with Royal London Insurance Ireland, having originally started in the insurance industry as an underwriter in 1999. Prior to that, I was a general nurse and remain registered with the Irish nursing board.

I have a passion for training and developing underwriting and claims professionals and I am committed to advancing the field through education and mentorship.

This is my first insurance conference and I am proud to represent the Health Insurance Society with LUCID. It is with pleasure that I look forward to working with the LUCID 2025 committee and supporting the delegates and speakers.

I’m a Senior Underwriter with Zurich Life having joined the old Eagle Star in 1999 and became an Underwriter in 2001 and have been with the company throughout my career to date.

LUCID 2025 will be my second conference representing the Health Insurance Society (HIS) and look forward to encouraging Irish attendance at the conference both at delegate and speaker level.

My main areas of interest / expertise are within automated / expert underwriting systems having led our introduction and expansion of these systems since 2007 in Zurich Life Ireland.

I was lucky enough to join the FOCUS committee in 2018 and am very much looking forward to being part of the LUCID committee for the first time. I’ve only been lucky enough to attend one of the past LUCID events (Glasgow 2019) so am very much ready to get stuck in with the organisation of our 2025 event.

I have worked in Claims for 20 years in a variety of roles, at both Legal & General and RGA. I’ve also been part of the Health Claims Forum for 10 years; the last 4 being spent as Vice Chair and then Chair. I’m excited about joining the LUCID committee as I enjoy putting together training and events that will benefit our fantastic industry and in turn, improving the service we can offer insurance customers.

I have worked in the insurance industry for 25 years, with over 15 years’ experience of training and developing underwriters at all stages of their careers. In conjunction with Cardiff University’s Professional Development team, I co-facilitated several specialist medical modules for underwriters. Since November 2021 I have worked as a Development Underwriter at Legal and General, retaining a keen interest in continuing professional development.

I joined the Select 74 committee in 2019, and I’m looking forward to working with the LUCID 2025 committee to deliver an exciting and innovative conference programme.

UK Protection, L&G Retail

I’m Chief Medical Officer for UK Protection, L&G Retail, where I support and advise on underwriting, claims management and client relationships, leveraging my experience as a practising NHS GP and private sector Occupational Health Physician.

My clinical interest is mental health and I previously advised NICE on the ‘Depression in Adults’ NG222 clinical guideline and served as Clinical Lead for Mental Health for my local CCG.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the LUCID committee and work with Dr Debbie Smith to contribute on scientific content and deliver another engaging and successful conference.

Swiss Re

I’m CMO for the Swiss Re team of doctors supporting our clients in UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. I’ve worked in insurance since 1985, leaving to pursue a career in medicine, then returning to the fold to work with Swiss Re from 2007. I held dual roles until recently, working as an Acute Physician in the UK’s largest NHS Trust before moving full time into the CMO role for EMEA. I sit on the committee of the AMUS and am a member of the Association of British Insurers Critical Illness Working Party.

I have been on the FOCUS committee for over 10 years having held various roles including Chair.

I joined the LUCID organising committee in 2013 and had the honour of Chairing LUCID in 2019 bringing the conference to Scotland for the first time. I’m a firm believer that LUCID is an excellent platform for bringing people together to hear market leading updates on medical and technical developments.

I am the Claims Governance and Strategy Manager for Aviva, having worked in Health and Protection claims for over 15 years. I love my job and am passionate about making sure people at all levels of experience get access to excellent industry training. This will be my 4th LUCID conference. Having chaired LUCID 2023 in York I am staying on to support the new committee in planning the 2025 event. I have previously chaired Select 74, and prior to this I spent 6 years on the Health Claims Forum committee.
